Borough Election Information

The Borough Clerk's office is responsible for administering all Borough elections. The regular Borough election is held on the first Tuesday in October of each year to elect members to the Borough Assembly and School Board. Voter registration is administered by the State Division of Elections [see link below]. In order to be a qualified voter of the Borough you must be registered to vote in a state election not less than 30 days prior to the election.

BALLOT INFORMATION

Sample ballots will be available September 14, 2012.  The following seats for elected offices will be on the October 2, 2012 Borough ballot:

Borough Assembly -       (2) seats for three-year terms    

Borough School Board - (3) seats for three-year terms   

Borough School Board - (1) seat for a two-year term

Filing for Office FAQ's

Filing for Borough offices occurs annually between August 1 and 25. Nominating petitions are made available by the Borough Clerk no sooner than 30 days prior to the filing period. All candidates must file an Alaska Public Offices Commission Financial Disclosure Form along with their nominating petition.  For information regarding candidate and public official disclosure statements contact Alaska Public Offices Commission: http://doa.alaska.gov/apoc/   

 

Qualifications for Borough Assembly Mayor or Assembly Candidate:

  • Registered to vote in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough thirty days prior to the election
  • Borough resident for at least one year prior to the election

Qualifications for Borough School Board Candidate:

  • Registered to vote in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough thirty days prior to the election
  • Borough resident for at least 30 days prior to the election
